Where things stand for former Unibet bettors
Unibet USA is not an operating sportsbook or casino today. Every US state platform the brand ran — Arizona, Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia — has been permanently shut down, and the former state sites display closure notices instead of a login screen. Registration, deposits and wagering through those closed services are no longer possible.
This site is an independent informational website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by Unibet or Kindred Group, and it carries no offers, odds or account links. If you arrived here from an old bookmark or an archived promotional email, the short answer is that the product you remember no longer exists in the United States, and there is nothing to sign up for. What follows is the verifiable status, the process for former customers, and the regulator that oversees each state. A page-by-page breakdown starts with the current availability status.
State-by-state status at a glance
The wind-down did not happen on a single day. Each state platform closed on its own schedule as the parent company retired its North American licenses. Public closure notices on the old state domains are the clearest record of what happened where.
- Arizona — closed. The Arizona platform's notice states operations were permanently closed as of June 4, 2024, and accounts can no longer be accessed. Details: the Unibet Arizona closure guide.
- Indiana — closed. The Indiana platform's notice puts the permanent shutdown at April 23, 2024. Details: the Unibet Indiana sportsbook closed guide.
- Virginia — not available. The Virginia sportsbook launched April 28, 2021 and was withdrawn during the same North American exit. Details: the Unibet Virginia closure guide.
- New Jersey and Pennsylvania — not available. Both were named in the announced withdrawal from the North American market.
- Nationwide — no Unibet USA product of any kind is live, in any state, in any format.
Why Kindred Group pulled the brand out of the market
In November 2023, Kindred Group — Unibet's Stockholm-listed parent at the time — announced it would exit North America, naming Arizona, Indiana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the province of Ontario, Canada. The stated reason was commercial rather than regulatory: the operator concluded it could not reach meaningful market share against far larger US competitors, and the cost of competing for attention in each state license was not sustainable.
The corporate picture changed again afterward. Kindred Group was acquired by the French operator La Française des Jeux (FDJ), with the takeover completed across 2024 and 2025. That further confirms there is no standalone Unibet US sportsbook business waiting to be relaunched. Treat any site promising a Unibet US bonus, promo code or new account as unreliable.
How the US presence was built, then unwound
Unibet entered regulated US markets state by state, in the pattern most European operators followed after single-state licensing opened up: a partner license, a mobile app, a state-specific domain such as az.unibet.com or in.unibet.com, and a marketing push tied to local teams and sports calendars. Virginia's April 28, 2021 launch is a good example of that phase.
The unwinding followed the same state-by-state shape in reverse. Deposits and new registrations were stopped, promotions ended, then wagering was switched off and the domain was replaced with a closure notice. For customers, the practical sequence was: no new bets, then no app, then no login. Anyone still holding open bets or a balance at the time was directed to settle through the operator's own closure process before access ended, which is why record-keeping matters so much now.
What happened to my account and any remaining balance?
This is the most common question we see, and the honest answer is procedural rather than promotional. Closed platforms no longer offer account access, so a former user cannot log in to check a balance, download a statement, or reopen a wager history. What you can do is document what you have: old confirmation emails, deposit and withdrawal records from your bank or payment provider, and any correspondence you received about the shutdown.
With that documentation in hand, the escalation path runs through the state regulator that licensed the platform in your state — not through a marketing contact. Our account and withdrawal help page walks through the general steps: assembling records, submitting an inquiry or complaint to the correct agency, expecting identity verification, and keeping written copies of everything. We do not publish phone numbers, mailboxes or turnaround times we cannot verify; always take contact details from the agency's own official website.
Which agency regulates your state
Sports wagering in the United States is licensed state by state, so the right authority depends entirely on where you played. These are the correct bodies for licensing questions, complaints and self-exclusion inquiries in the three states this guide focuses on.
- Arizona — Arizona Department of Gaming, the agency that licensed event wagering operators in the state.
- Virginia — Virginia Lottery, which oversees sports betting permit holders.
- Indiana — Indiana Gaming Commission, responsible for sportsbook licensing and player complaints.
- Outside these states, look for the state gaming commission, lottery or racing authority named on the state government's own domain.
Betting legally after the closure
If you still want to wager, the rule is simple: only an operator holding a license in your own state may legally accept your bet, and only if you are 21 or older and physically located in that state. Offshore sites that accept US customers without a state license sit outside that protection, which means no regulated complaint route if something goes wrong.
Our legal betting alternatives by state page lists options for Arizona, Virginia and Indiana with a plain verification method — check the operator's license number against the state regulator's public list before you deposit anything. Every operator named there is a third-party operator, not affiliated with Unibet or with this website, and nothing on this site is a recommendation to gamble. State laws change; confirm current rules for your state before acting.
Staying in control: help and self-exclusion
A platform closing can be an unsettling prompt to chase a balance or to open accounts elsewhere quickly. If betting has stopped feeling like entertainment, free help is available nationwide. 1-800-GAMBLER is the widely used US problem-gambling helpline, and the National Council on Problem Gambling is the recognized national resource for information and referrals.
Most states also run their own voluntary self-exclusion program through the regulator listed above, and licensed operators are required to offer deposit limits, time limits, cool-off periods and permanent account closure. Our responsible gambling resources page collects those tools and explains how state self-exclusion generally works. This site is for adults 21 and over only.
