Unibet USA: State-by-State Status
No US state currently lists Unibet as a licensed, operating sportsbook or online casino. This page is the short-form status board: the six markets the brand once held, the date each one went dark, the withdrawal deadline where one was published, and the regulator that still accepts complaints about it. Informational only — 21+ or 18+ depending on state law.
Is Unibet available in the USA? The status in one line
No — and that has been true since the second quarter of 2024. Kindred Group, the Stockholm-based owner of the Unibet brand, announced in December 2023 that it would end all North American operations, and the last US platform switched off in June 2024. The brand itself was founded in the United Kingdom in 1997 and still trades outside North America, which is why old app listings and cached review pages can still make Unibet USA look live.
Treat any page offering a Unibet US account, deposit method or welcome promotion as stale. If you held an account and still have a balance question, the practical steps sit on our account and withdrawal help page; the wider background is on the main guide.
Six markets, six different end dates
Unibet's US footprint was never national. It reached six states in total, and each closure followed that state's own regulatory process for notifying players, settling open wagers and returning balances — which is why the calendar looks staggered rather than clean.
- Iowa — the earliest exit, on December 20, 2022, more than a year before the wider withdrawal was announced. Regulator: Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission.
- Virginia — the Unibet Virginia closure took effect April 12, 2024. Regulator: Virginia Lottery.
- New Jersey — deposits stopped April 5, 2024, withdrawals were accepted through May 13, and the online casino and sportsbook closed on May 14, 2024. Regulator: New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.
- Pennsylvania — sportsbook operations wound down with the rest of the exit and the online casino ceased on June 21, 2024, after a June 20 withdrawal deadline. Regulator: Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
- Arizona — the Unibet Arizona sportsbook closure came as part of the same 2024 North American exit. Regulator: Arizona Department of Gaming.
- Indiana — the Unibet Indiana sportsbook closed under the same phased plan. Regulator: Indiana Gaming Commission.
Why Arizona and Indiana got less coverage than New Jersey
Both were sportsbook-only markets, without the online casino component New Jersey and Pennsylvania carried, so the wind-down touched fewer product lines and drew fewer headlines. That changes nothing for a former customer: the account is closed, the app no longer accepts logins, and any residual balance follows the same rules the state applies to other licensed operators leaving the market. If you registered in Phoenix or Indianapolis and never received a final notice, search your inbox and spam folder for messages sent in spring 2024 before assuming none was ever sent.
Check a state's licensed operator list before trusting a top-ten page
State status moves on its own schedule, and it is set by legislatures and regulators rather than by whichever brand advertises hardest. The reliable check takes two minutes: open the gaming commission, lottery or racing commission site for your state and read the list of licensed online operators. If a brand is absent from that list, it holds no licence there, whatever a review page claims.
Offshore sites are the other thing to watch. They accept US customers without any state licence, which means no state-run dispute process, no audited game testing and no self-exclusion register standing behind them. The regulator complaint route described elsewhere on this site exists only for operators a state actually licensed.
What a closed market really means for a former bettor
Unibet's exit did not change the legal status of wagering anywhere — it removed one licensed option from six states and left every other rule intact. Some readers will move to another licensed operator listed by their own regulator; others treat a closed account as a natural stopping point. Both are reasonable. Our responsible gambling resources collect the national helpline and the state-funded programs that stay open regardless of which brands come and go.
FAQ
Which US states did Unibet operate in?
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Indiana and Virginia at the time of the withdrawal, plus Iowa, which the sportsbook had already exited on December 20, 2022.
Is the Unibet app still usable in any state?
No. The US apps stopped accepting logins as each state platform closed during the phased exit completed in the second quarter of 2024. Any store listing you still see is a leftover.
Could Unibet return to the United States?
Nothing has been announced. A return would require a new licence application in each state, and this page would be updated only against a regulator listing or a company statement, not rumor.
Is this the official Unibet status page?
No. This is an independent informational guide with no affiliation to Unibet or Kindred Group. It uses a text wordmark, no official logo, and it does not accept wagers or sign-ups.
